Why Study the Martial Arts
The founder of A.K.K.A. Karate-USA 10th Degree Black Belt Grand Master Bill Packer emphasized that the underlying reason for the study of any martial art is a desire for self-confidence. Fear becomes the motivation for entering a martial arts school. Fear results from a lack of self-confidence and this fear is the first obstacle to overcome. Once this fear is admitted the martial artist embarks on a path that approaches all threats and trials of living “with a graceful mastery born of a tranquil spirit.”
Mr. Packer went on to explain that Kenpo Karate “pursues this goal by offering the student the opportunity to acquire effective self-defense techniques founded on a sound physical basis. Fear is then met head-on.”
Confidence is created by confronting fear in a controlled supervised learning environment and confidence, once developed, readily permeates all aspects of a practitioner’s living.
